elvis fest

a few weeks ago there was the collingwood elvis festival here in town. it was huge for such a small town, almost 100 000 people to watch elvises (elvi) of every persuasion. it was positively surreal. you couldn't take 5 steps without bumping into another "king". apparently there were around 240 elvis impersonators performing all over town. even customers in the pubs were clones. they were also judged with the overall winner going to graceland for the international competition.
you had to be there to believe it.

neil and jeanette's visit to canada

last summer neil and jeanette came to toronto to visit john, pansy, laurie and i. they spent a few days in toronto with john and a few days in collingwood with us. in between those 2 stays we visited a friend's cottage in the haliburton highlands area of ontario cottage country. during the visit they they saw niagara falls and wine region, the sights of downtown toronto, the lake country and the beaches of the great lakes. it was great to spend time together and really get to know each other. both neil and jeanette have an amazing sense of humour and fun. here are a few pics of the visit. i can only upload 5 pictures at a time here.

bridie's wedding

two summers ago we travelled to england for the wedding of bridie henderson to james barber at ripley castle in yorkshire. this was the first time i had seen my cousin neil on over 35 years. for my brother john and i it was amazing to discover so much more family. growing up in canada we lost contact with most of our family on both my father and mother's side. we are trying to make up for lost time.
here are some pics from the wedding.

first time

this is the first post in my blog. i recently received a copy of the hunter family tree that dorothy and keith wooley of newark, england have been working on. it starts with my great-grandparents john hunter and lilias wright. they produced 14 children many of whom survived to ripe old ages and in so doing produced a great many more children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren etc. i am hoping to put together a copy of this list to pass on to family members and hear from them in the process. when i have it complete i will post it here. let's see how it goes.
cheers
jim
